Disaster sprouts from riding side by side

More than 2000 years ago, the witchcraft imprisonment made Emperor Wu of Han kill Crown Prince Wei and Shi Huangsun. The son of Shi Huangsun, Liu Xun, was stranded among the common people. When Emperor Wu of Han passed the throne to Emperor Zhao of Han, he entrusted five ministers including General Huo Guang for assistance.Emperor Zhao of Han followed all instructions from Huo Guang and married his granddaughter, who became Empress Shangguan. Huo Guang thought that Emperor Zhao would be a puppet emperor forever, but unfortunately, he died at the age of 22.

Huo Guang appointed Liu He, King of Changyi, as the next emperor in the name of his granddaughter Empress Dowager Shangguan. However, Liu He considered himself the real emperor and wanted to replace the empress dowager's guards with his own men. After only 27 days, he was deposed by Huo Guang.

Huo Guang then brought back Liu Xun from the commoners and helped him ascend the throne, known as Emperor Xuan of Han. At first, Emperor Xuan maintained a low profile, inviting the grand general to take charge of politics and following all his instructions. The only thing he didn't compromise on was refusing to marry Huo Guang's daughter. He had already married Lady Xu while living among the commoners, and she was brought into the palace and established as empress.

Later, when Empress Xu gave birth to a prince, she was poisoned to death by a female doctor dispatched by Huo Guang's wife. After this incident, Emperor Xuan married Huo Guang's daughter and established her as empress.

After Huo Guang's death, his descendants controlled the court. Emperor Xuan gradually assigned nominal positions to Huo family members using a "boiling frog" strategy. Dissatisfied, they felt real panic when Emperor Xuan decided to thoroughly investigate Empress Xu's death. A servant of the Huo family leaked their plan to revolt, which eventually reached Emperor Xuan's ears. In the end, the entire Huo family was executed, and Empress Huo was demoted.

However, Emperor Xuan did not punish Huo Guang. After the Huo clan was exterminated, Huo Guang's tomb was not implicated and still accompanied Maoling. Recalling the past contributions of Huo Guang after the Xiongnu surrendered, Emperor Xuan listed Huo Guang as the first meritorious minister, respectfully titled "Grand Marshal, Grand General, Lord of Bolu, Surname Huo".

Because the emperor understood that his legitimacy and legality came from Huo Guang. Denying Huo Guang would be equivalent to denying himself.

It can be seen that many historical situations are always so similar.
